Equine Veterinary Assistant (Ambulatory / Outpatient)    (Four 10-hour day shift)

Inova Partners, LLC has an immediate opportunity at our busy referral hospital in Weatherford, Texas for a full-time  (30+ hours per week) Ambulatory / Outpatient Veterinary Assistant/Technician at Equine Sports Medicine & Surgery’s Weatherford Division, PLLC (“ESMS”) . 

The anticipated work schedule will be a Four (4) 10-hour day shift [Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Friday] with One (1) weekend per month rotating on-call duty.  On-call may vary with anesthesia knowledge.  Occasional overnight travel may be necessary during sale events.

Established in 2002 ESMS is a large multiple-veterinarian equine practice offering services including ICU & critical care, hospitalization, 24-hour emergencies, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, surgery, lameness, reproduction, ambulatory, dentistry, and wellness.

We have an excellent team, including CVTs, LVTs, RVTs and a large, well-trained support staff. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide effective communication and technical support to veterinarians, technicians and other staff members in the delivery of primary care, diagnostic services, and disease control. Essential care duties include, but are not limited to, administering treatments, preparing medications, and taking physicals.
  • Observe patients’ comfort and needs, alerting doctors of any problems.
  • Restrain patients.
  • Assist with after-hours emergencies.
  • Assist with surgical procedures.
  • Assist in the Hospital barn, ICU, Outpatient and Ambulatory areas.
  • Assist in routine lameness exams and sterile joint preparations.
  • Jog with horse in hand; stand, bend, and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods.
  • Assist in other areas of the hospital as directed, including but not limited to:
    • Replace or refill items in exam/workrooms, waiting area, breakroom, and bathrooms
  • May require working alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or “on-call-duty” to ensure hospital operations are sufficient.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1-year Equine veterinary practice experience required.
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT or RVT) preferred.
  • Excellent veterinary nursing skills.
  • Excellent horse-handling, communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Team-oriented, self-motivated, and positive individual with strong work ethic.
  • Ability to efficiently multi-task in a fast-paced environment with changing work assignments.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to safely move and handle up to 50 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in both inside and outside weather conditions.
  • Employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Performing work requires coordination, agility, and strength to lift heavy objects.
