Dr. Dylan Lutter grew up in South Dakota with a strong family heritage in the horse business, raising ranch horses and cutting horses, as well as Belgian draft horses and mules. He competed in timed events in high school and college rodeo, along with local NCHA events, which sparked his lifelong interest in equine performance and soundness.

Dr. Lutter earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from South Dakota State University in 2005 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 2009. From 2009–2010, he completed an equine internship at Bend Equine Medical Center in Bend, Oregon. He then completed a surgical residency at Washington State University in 2013, followed by a one-year fellowship in equine MRI and advanced imaging in 2014. During this time, he also earned a Master of Science degree with research focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of horses with deep digital flexor tendon injuries within the foot.

Following his residency and fellowship, Dr. Lutter joined the faculty at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor, where he served as the Large Animal Emergency Surgeon. He achieved board certification with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2015. In 2019, Dr. Lutter transitioned into a daytime surgery position and established the Equine Performance Medicine Service at Kansas State University, spearheading the use of equine MRI and biologic therapies for musculoskeletal injuries in performance horses.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Lutter conducted clinical research, trained surgery residents and interns, and taught courses in equine anatomy, surgical skills, large animal surgery, equine lameness, and equine podiatry.

Dr. Lutter has a special interest in complex lameness cases, advanced imaging, and musculoskeletal surgery, and enjoys working closely with clients to develop diagnostic and treatment plans tailored to each horse’s athletic goals and long-term soundness.

In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Lutter is certified in Equine Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy (CERP) and completed animal chiropractic training at Parker University in Dallas, Texas. He became certified in animal chiropractic by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (cAVCA) in 2021 and values incorporating rehabilitation and chiropractic principles into comprehensive performance care.

Dr. Lutter is also experienced in working with other performance livestock and enjoys providing chiropractic care to show cattle, sheep, and goats when appropriate.
