Equine Veterinary Surgical Technician
Inova Partners, LLC has an immediate opportunity at our busy referral hospital and out-patient clinic, Equine Sports Medicine & Surgery (“ESMS”), in Weatherford, TX for a full-time (30+ hours per week) Equine Veterinary Surgical Technician.
The anticipated work schedule will be (1) Three 12-hour day shift or (2) Four 10-hour day shift with rotating on-call duty.
Established in 2002 ESMS is a large multiple-veterinarian equine practice offering services including ICU & critical care, hospitalization, 24-hour emergencies, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, surgery, lameness, reproduction, ambulatory, dentistry, and wellness.
We have an excellent team, including CVTs, LVTs, RVTs and a large, well-trained support staff.
Primary Responsibilities:

Assist with surgical procedures.

Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures.

Assist with appropriate placement of the patient on the surgery table.

Surgical site preparation using aseptic technique.

Maintain presence in the operating room during surgical procedures to assist the surgeon when needed.

Ensure all instruments are appropriately cleaned, packed, and sterilized after procedures.

Maintain an exceptionally clean operating room along with the recovery/induction stalls and prep room.

Ensure inventory is stocked, especially at the end of each day including enough stock for emergencies on the weekends.

Provide technical support to veterinarians in the delivery of primary care, diagnostic services, and disease control.
Secondary Responsibilities:

Restrain patients.

Assist with after-hours emergencies.

Monitor patient through careful observation of their comfort and needs; alerting doctors if any problems arise.

Assist in other areas of the hospital (Hospital barn, ICU, Outpatient and/or Ambulatory) as needed or directed.

Routing lameness exams

Sterile joint preparations

Jog with horse in hand

Assist with laundry duties.

May require working alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or “on-call-duty” to ensure hospital operations are sufficient.
Qualifications:
-
Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT or RVT), preferred.

Equine veterinary practice experience, required.

Extensive knowledge of all surgery supplies and equipment.

Excellent veterinary nursing skills.

Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently.
-
Ability to safely move and handle up to 75 lbs.

Team-oriented, self-motivated and positive individual with strong work ethics.

Excellent horse-handling, communication, customer service, and organizational skills.

Ability to efficiently multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
